Lapiplasty Bunion Surgery

lapiplasty bunion surgery

Lapiplasty Bunion Surgery is a new treatment in Bunion Surgery!

Bunions, or Hallux Abductovalgus, are painful conditions formed by the turning of the big toe against the second, leading to a prominent bone at the big toe joint. They can cause significant pressure and pain when wearing shoes.  This pressure leads to arthritis in the joint and causes stress against the 2nd digit.

Those bunions can affect your ability to walk, exercise, or even get around the house. The surgeons at Foot HealthCare Associates are experts at treating bunion pain. They are also trained in performing the new Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction!

Traditional VS Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction

While traditional bunion correction is still great for mild bunion deformities, the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction treats the bunion at the source, along the base of the 1st metatarsal.

It is ideal for treating moderate-to-severe bunion deformities. First, we correct the bunion at the unstable joint near the middle of your foot, realigning the bunion from the source. Then, we stabilize the joint with two plates to control motion across all directions. Because of this, we can correct the bunion in all three planes. This places the foot back in a normal, anatomic position. Lapiplasty allows a complete correction of your bunion. The procedure also minimizes the risk of pain, stiffness, or recurrence of the bunion over time.

This advanced surgical correction requires surgeons to understand the complex biomechanics of the foot to get the best possible outcomes in bunion surgery.

Traditional surgeries attempting this correction would require 6-8 weeks of no weight on your foot. Traditional surgery also requires an additional two weeks of walking in a Walking Boot to allow for adequate healing. However, due to new techniques and innovative plating technology, a patient can begin to walk on their surgical foot in a Walking Boot within just 10-14 days after surgery.

Requiring no cast after surgery!

The Lapiplasty procedure decreases many of the risks of traditional surgery, including stiffness, joint pain, and even blood clots, without risking the healing of the surgery site. And this novel technique has been a game changer for permanently removing bunion pain. It also allows you to return to your active lifestyle quickly.
